Hi Rafael,
How is your project going? As I have seen at the conference on Solar Cooling there are may ways to cool using solar power. The most simple ones use low temperature solar panels (up to 130 degrees celsius) and absorption chillers. Cold storage (tanks with ice) is more efficient that heat storage, which is fine for airconditioning. Perhaps a combination of a solar roof with cooling ceiling (which is the same type of building element) could be elegant..

Hi Rafael,
That would depend on how far you are talking about. I could ask an expert what the options are based on central cooling. There are also heat driven cooling techniques that use lower temperatures which could mean you take the hot water to the homes and then choose to use for hot water, airco or refrigeration. In general cold will trap itself in a trough shaped conduit and with good isolation that may make the losses acceptable. There are good software packages (computational fluid dynamics) that can simulate any setup. It could be included into the feasibility study (also involvement of cooling experts).

Hi Rafael,
That is an interesting project! If you take roughly 1000 sqft per residence with 18,000 BTU peak cooling requirement then you'd need several (3) 50 meter bowls. Alternatively you can use solar trough collectors, but they are less efficient for cooling. The power would be about 1,800 kW maximum. The cost would come in around 300,000 Euro (0,2/Watt) without the chillers.
This is obviously a rough estimate, but also very conservative. For a precise analysis I would need all the relevant info, then we could work out a feasibility study (cost will depent on the time it takes). What is the timeline of this project.
fyi, I will be visiting a conference on solar cooling in Palermo next week (OTTI). I may be able to give better information. It would be very interesting to work out the details of your project.
Best regards,

Hi,
I may be able to help you. Please answer on frits@rincker.nl or info@sunreign.com. What will the solarpower plant be for?
